Homicide inquiry into man's death in Auckland

7:08 pm on 16 February 2013

Police say a man found dead in a house in east Auckland and another man who had stab wounds, knew each other.

The body of a 24-year-old man was found at the house where he lived on Fiesta Drive in Half Moon Bay just before midnight on Friday.

Police had earlier attended an incident in Botany Downs, where a car had crashed into a house.

The driver is being treated in Middlemore Hospital and is being supervised by a police officer.

Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher says inquiries after the crash led them to the house in Half Moon Bay where the body was found.

He says the deceased and the injured man are believed to have been friends.

Mr Gallagher says police want to talk to the injured man when he's recovered.

Police want anyone who saw the car involved in the crash, a two-door 1996 silver Mitsubishi Mirage, between 9.30pm and 11pm on Friday, to contact them.
