Olympic shotput champion Valerie Vili has won her ninth national title at the New Zealand Championships in Wellington on Saturday.

Vili's best throw was her sixth and final with a distance of 19.81 metres.

Beatrice Faumuina won her 16th discus title, but had some trouble doing it.

The former world champion fouled her first three throws and would have been eliminated under the top eight only go on for a further three throws rule.

But there were only eight competitors in the field so all of them were able to get three more throws.

Faumuina threw 60.03 metres with her fifth throw which gives her a B standard qualifying mark for this year's World Championships.

Sprinter Monique Williams has completed two-thirds of the treble she's after this weekend, by winning the 400m to go with the 100m she won on Friday. She will race the 200 on Sunday.
