The father of an Auckland woman fatally mauled by dogs says they worked to exhaustion to help her overcome addictions and the death is shattering.

Chloe Mathewson was killed on Friday when attacked by the two animals as she left a property at Redvale on the North Shore.

A post-mortem showed that Ms Mathewson suffered horrific injuries inflicted by the dogs, which have since been put down.

In a statement, Jim Mathewson says the 31-year-old's magnetic personality drew people to her and that she was gifted in sports and music.

However, he says his daughter did have serious addictions which he and his son, Ben Mathewson, helped her overcome, and when clean she made a positive contribution to society.

Jim Mathewson says the family is in deep pain and agony over her death and thankful for the overwhelming support it has received.

Police have not ruled out laying charges in relation to the death and say a 52-year-old man living at the Redvale property is helping them with their investigation.
