Auckland Council says the fatal mauling of a woman by two dogs is a tragic consequence of the failure to desex male dogs.
Chloe Mathewson died from injuries sustained when she was attacked by two large dogs as she left a property at Redvale on the North Shore on Friday.
The council's animal management team leader, Warwick Robertson, says a group of male dogs that have not been desexed is a recipe for disaster as they are more aggressive.
He says the tragic atttack sends a strong message.
The animals have been put down.
