New Zealand police will work with forces from several Pacific Island nations in a new programme aimed at enhancing police capability in those countries.
The Partnership for Pacific Policing Programme, launched in Porirua on Monday, will build on work already done in the Pacific.
The four-year programme involves the training and mentoring of officers in the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tokelau, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Assistant commissioner Malcolm Burgess says the New Zealand police will offer advice and expertise, and help with community engagement initiatives.
The $4 million project is being funded by the New Zealand Government.
