Cold case trial adjourned

The trial of a 72-year-old man accused of murdering a service station attendant nearly 34 years ago in Turangi has been adjourned.

The trial was scheduled to start in the Rotorua High Court on Monday.

Menzies Hallett pleaded not guilty to the murder charge early last year.

Rodney Tahu, who was 32, was shot in the head and shoulder early on 16 August 1979 and died later in hospital.

Jury selection will resume on Tuesday at 10am. The trial is scheduled to take two weeks.
