High ranking for NZ school science results

New Zealand secondary school results in science have been ranked second only to Finland.

And a newly-released OECD study says one-in-five of New Zealand 15 year olds are among the top performers in the world.

The study looks at science results in 57 countries.

Radio New Zealand's education correspondent says the results come less than a year after the Ministry of Education described primary school science results as a concern, and the national education monitoring project said primary school children were increasingly being turned off science.

The new report says science learning depends upon the cumulative experience over many years.
