A man has a severed ear and a deep cut to his neck after an assault near a pub in the Coromandel.
Police say he was assaulted with a glass bottle near the Tui Lodge on Whangapoua Road near the town of Coromandel, just before 1am on Sunday.
A doctor had to be called to assist paramedics who took the man by ambulance to Thames hospital.
He was later transferred to Waikato hospital, where a spokesperson said he may need plastic surgery. He is in a stable condition.
