Ports of Auckland and union talks delayed

12:52 pm on 6 June 2013

Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union have delayed talks scheduled for today to try to reach a final agreement over their protracted industrial dispute.

Talks on a collective contract broke down in 2011, leading to strikes, lock-out notices, court action and threats of redundancies.

Both parties agreed to a list of recommendations from a court-appointed facilitator in February, after months of negotiations. The recommendations have not been made public.

A Ports of Auckland spokesperson says facilitation scheduled for today has cancelled due to the unavailability of a union lawyer but another meeting has been scheduled for next Tuesday.
