Driver rescued by farmer on tractor

1:26 pm on 11 July 2013

A farmer rescued a woman after her car became stuck in rising floodwaters on a rural road near Napier on Thursday morning.

Police said the woman called emergency services to say her stationwagon was stuck and she could not move away from the car because the current was too strong.

Within half an hour the water had risen to the woman's waist, but she was rescued a short time later by a farmer with a tractor.

There has been heavy rain throughout Hawke's Bay in the past 48 hours, but there have been no reports of major accidents or incidents as a result.

Police advise motorists not to drive through any flooded areas, especially rural roads and fords where water depths are not immediately obvious.
