Concert-goers warned about dance venue

Ticket-holders for a concert on Saturday night by the Shapeshifter dance band at Wellington Town Hall have been sent an email advising them the venue is a quake-prone building and there may be aftershocks during the concert.

A spokesperson for Wellington City Council said people have also been told that intoxication will not be tolerated and anyone who is drunk will be ejected.

Richard MacLean said that is partly due to the danger they would pose if the building had to be evacuated.

He says the same message was issued to those who attended an International Ukulele concert on Thursday.

The Town Hall is due to be closed in November for strengthening work costing $43 million.
