New Zealand swimmer Lauren Boyle's top form has continued with a record-breaking victory in the 800-metre freestyle race FINA World Cup in the Netherlands.
Boyle finished in 8 minutes 1.22 seconds on the opening night of the event at Eindhoven. She set a new World Cup championship and Commonwealth record and was only 16/100ths of a second outside the world record.
The 25-year-old beat a classy field including Spain's Olympic silver medallist Mireia Garcia and Danish star Lotte Friis.
She also broke her own national 200-metres record in the heats, though managed only seventh in the final.
Boyle races in the 400-metres freestyle on the second day of competition before swimming in the second leg of the FINA World Cup in Berlin at the weekend.
