3:23 pm on 15 August 2013

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully has condemned the violence in Egypt.

Mr McCully says the use of military force against civilians is completely unacceptable and that the New Zealand Government urges all parties to exercise restraint.

He says Egypt's future can only be secured through an inclusive political process that incorporates all parties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade continues to advise New Zealanders against all tourist and other non-essential travel to Egypt.

MFAT says 220 New Zealanders have registered as being there.

The Ministry strongly advises New Zealanders to tell it if they are in Egypt via the website, safetravel.govt.nz.
