Cathedral case going to the Supreme Court

The Great Christchurch Buildings Trust is taking its quest to save the Anglican cathedral in Christchurch to the Supreme Court.

The trust says it wants to overturn a decision by the Court of Appeal last month that the Anglican Church can demolish the building and replace it with a new building.

Trust co-chair Jim Anderton, said the High Court and the Court of Appeal got it wrong and a decision needs to be made by the highest court in the country.

Mr Anderton said there are many people in Christchurch who are financially backing the action.

He said demolition has been halted while the matter is before the courts.
