2800 Orion customers still without power

6:02 pm on 15 September 2013

Power has been restored to 90% of Orion customers following Tuesday's storm.

Repair crews have been working through the weekend.

Power supply was originally cut off to 28,000 customers.

Orion said 2800 remain without electricity, mostly in the rural area west of Christchurch.

Crews will probably take until Tuesday to restore supply to all the remaining customers.

Orion said contractors have been brought from throughout the South Island and Wellington to help restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Meanwhile, the lines company MainPower said it still had about 800 customers to reconnect.
