Police sting finds no driver over limit

6:49 am on 22 December 2013

A police drink-driving sting in the North Island has found not a single driver over the legal alcohol limit.

About 40 officers stopped 2,584 vehicles at Sanson, Mangaweka and Eltham between 3pm and 7pm Friday.

Senior Sergeant Kris Burbery says alcohol was detected on 35 drivers, but none were over the legal limit.

He says this is encouraging leading into the holiday period.

Mr Burbery says 85 infringement notices were issued for offences including expired warrant of fitness, while two people will appear in court for driving while disqualified.

The official Christmas holiday road period begins at 4pm on Christmas Eve and runs until 6am on 3 January.
