MetService is picking Blenheim and Nelson as the places to be for Christmas Day, while Southland is in for a dreary holiday.
The forecaster is predicting temperatures of about 26 - 27 °C for Blenheim and Nelson while Invercargill and Gore are in for a much cooler 15°C or 16°C.
As for the rest of the country, it looks like it'll be a mixed bag of showers and sunshine.
MetService has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island and the Tararua Ranges in the lower North Island.
The weather is expected to be better on Boxing Day, especially along the West Coast of the South Island.
