Stolen truck rams police car

11:29 pm on 27 December 2013

A police car was extensively damaged when it was rammed by a stolen truck in the early hours of Friday morning .

The police were called when someone saw the light truck being taken from a West Auckland car yard.

The police say the driver ploughed into the police car at 12.30am, disabling it, before taking off.

The drivers of other police cars then gave chase but Inspector Andy Brill says the truck then went down the wrong way on the North-Western motorway.

He says the pursuit had to be called off for safety reasons.

The truck was abandoned in an industrial area and the driver hasn't been found.

Mr Brill says no-one was hurt when the police car was rammed.

He says about half a dozen police patrols and a dog handler were involved in the pursuit.
