Fine New Year's Eve forecast for most

10:16 pm on 30 December 2013

Stormy weather and thunderstorms will continue to affect parts of New Zealand for the rest of the day, but the MetService is predicting mostly fine weather for Tuesday night's celebrations to welcome in the new year.

Meterologist Daniel Corbett says a trough is moving across western parts of the country, bringing showers on Monday.

Thunderstorms are also forecast for the South Island and the Central Plateau.

Mr Corbett says the weather has been variable, but expects it to clear on Monday night.

Once the last trough has moved across the country, he says most places should have fine weather on Tuesday, except for the West Coast of the South Island.
