Kiwibank is warning customers its website and online banking operations are running at very slow speeds due to an overload of payments being processed.

The New Zealand bank says because the new year begins mid-week, it is processing at times up to four days of payments early.
A spokesperson said customers are getting through, but in some instances it would take up to two hours.
He said the website has been overburdened with payments that need to be processed early because they cannot be done on Tuesday night.
The website was expected to be back to normal on Tuesday.
