Burglaries down - AA Insurance

AA Insurancesays burglaries are falling but it still advises custoemrs to be vigilant.

Customer relations head Suzanne Wolton says the likelihood of experiencing a burglary decreased 12% in the past year from the corresponding period in 2011.

But the company recorded more than 1330 house burglaries and thefts from vehicles, with a total cost of $4.5 million.

Ms Wolton says the risk of burglary is highest at this time of year, when people are away or have Christmas presents lying around.

She says data also shows about one-fifth of New Zealanders do not lock their homes or cars.
