Police say they are not treating the death of a man in Palmerston North as a homicide.
Officers were called to a Russell Street property on Friday night where a man in his 60s was found dead and a woman was critically injured.
The man's body was badly burnt.
The woman, in her 30s, was stabbed in the face and body and her condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
She has had surgery and is expected to be in hospital for some time.
A police spokesperson says officers are talking to several people who were at the address but are no longer treating the matter as a homicide.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
