Commission warns on DealSave

8:26 pm on 22 February 2014

The Commerce Commission has issued a warning about an auction website, DealSave, after people's credit cards were charged even though they didn't bid on anything.

The commission says people are drawn to the so-called penny auction site through advertisements on Facebook, and are encouraged to enter their credit card details to register.

It says when the people queried DealSave, they've been told they have made a purchase and no refunds are given. Some have been charged up to $370.

Commission consumer manager Stuart Wallace says the company appears to be based overseas, which makes it difficult for action to be taken.

He says anyone who's had an unauthorised charge by the DealSave site should contact their bank or credit card company in the first instance.
