The Foreign Ministry has said arrangements for the return of a Malaysian diplomat who claimed diplomatic immunity and fled New Zealand is still being worked through

Muhammad Rizalman claimed diplomatic immunity and fled New Zealand in May after he was charged with assault with intent to commit rape and burglary against a Wellington woman.

But there is confusion over when the Malaysian government will send him back following reports he has been in a military hospital with depression.

BBC correspondent Jennifer Pak told Morning Report the Malaysian Foreign Minister was refusing to give details about Mr Rizalman's mental state.

But she said the decision to send him back to Wellington was made at a Cabinet level, which was a strong signal the Government wanted him to face trial in New Zealand.
