Aratere back to regular schedule

8:58 am on 30 August 2014

Troubled Cook Strait ferry Aratere is back to doing three return sailings a day.

It was limited to two round trips after engineers refitted a propeller that fell off in the sea last November.

But at its annual financial results briefing yesterday, operator of the Interislander ferry service, KiwiRail, said the ship had returned to its regular routine.

Chief executive Peter Reidy said the ferry is now well placed to pick up peak summer demand.

"This also gives us confidence that we'll be well able to meet the peak demand season for our customers," Mr Reidy said.

Interislander revenue fell by just over $9 million for the year ended June because of the ferry failure.
