Bryne Permal and Shivneel Kumar have denied charges of murdering Mr Prasad, whose charred body was found on a rural road in South Auckland.

In Bryne Permal's DVD interview with police, he admitted telling lies to the police but eventually he told them that he was driven out to the rural road by Mr Kumar.

He said he remained in the car while Mr Kumar grabbed two containers of petrol and went up a bank on the side of the road.

Mr Permal said he could see a human hand in the grass and watched as his friend emptied the petrol and set the body alight, with the fire almost reaching the car.

He said Mr Kumar had already carried out the murder by the time he arrived.
