The case came to light late last month, when 13 streets missed out on their mail.

Almost 700 local body election forms were among the mail discarded in the Wellington suburb of Maupuia.

The mail has since been delivered.

New Zealand Post has fired the man, saying it had conducted a thorough investigation and disciplinary process.

Police are now investigating but have not laid any charges yet.
