Police dog bites boy at kindergarten

The father of a three-year-old boy bitten by a police dog says the incident was a one-off.

Tyler Hatton suffered two puncture wounds and a gash on his nose when the dog bit him during a kindergarten visit in Napier on Thursday.

His father, Matthew Hatton, says the boy was waiting in line to pat the dog when it bit him on the face.

Mr Hatton says he does not want to lay blame with police, adding that the dog handler was mortified about the attack.

Police and the Napier Kindergarten Association are investigating the incident.

The association is also considering whether police dog visits should happen in future.
