Breaches of shellfish limits

6:08 am on 24 December 2008

A number of people have been caught in the Bay of Plenty with undersized shellfish, or more than their legal limit.

The daily legal limit for paua is 10 per person and 50 per person for green-lipped mussels.

However, a Rotorua man and an associate were caught at a checkpoint at Maketu last weekend with 94 undersized paua and 372 green-lipped mussels.

The Ministry of Fisheries says five other prosecutions are pending from incidents over the past few weeks in Mateku, Little Waihi and Mount Maunganui.
