Police in Greymouth are advising people not to travel alone on the West Coast Wilderness Trail in Greymouth, following a sexual attack on a teenage girl.
Detective Sergeant Kirsten Norton said investigations were continuing into the attack last month on a 14 year-old, which was reported only recently.
Police said there had been no further concerning incidents in the area but, as with any track, people were encouraged to walk with a friend, especially where cell phone coverage was either limited or not available.
Ms Norton said police were not in a position to release a description of an offender.
She said the 14-year-old was receiving ongoing support.
