Voter turnout in this year's local elections is expected to be higher than it was three years ago.

City, district and regional councils will be elected on 9 October.

Average voter turnout for Parliamentary general elections is about 87%, but it was about 45% for local elections three years ago.

Warwick Lammp from electionz.com says there is more interest in the local elections this year.

Mr Lammp has been running information sessions for potential candidates up and down the country.

He expects about 50% of voters will do so in October.
