Concerns about large numbers of young people hanging around a bus station has resulted in extra police patrols.
Waitematā North Area prevention manager Senior Sergeant Roger Small said reports had been made to police about young people congregating at the Hibiscus Coast Bus Station "causing issues".
"Police are acutely aware of the community's concerns around some of the behaviour resulting because of this, and have been working hard to make sure our locals feel safe," Small said.
"We are continuing to work with both the community and our partner agencies to address any concerns."
In recent weeks, police officers have been patrolling the bus station on Fridays and Saturdays between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
On 16 June, two youths were taken home and their guardians spoken to, Small said.
He said a large number of youths were occupying the station and dispersed quickly when police engaged with them.
The following day less youth were at the station and one person was taken home without incident, he said.
The patrols were focused on engaging with the community but police alone could not solve the issues, he said.
Auckland Transport supported the initiative, executive general manager of safety Stacey van der Putten said.
"We continue to run a range of measures, alongside police, to ensure all our services and facilities are as safe as possible."
