Two charged over Taranaki taxi assault

Two men have been charged with aggravated robbery after a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed in the Taranaki town of Waitara.

The 61-year-old man was attacked on Bayly Street, on the northern side of the Waitara River, about 5am on Sunday, suffering bruising and cuts to his face. Police say his cellphone and wallet were stolen.

Two men, aged 17 and 20, were due to appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Tuesday.
