Ongoing aftershocks from Fiordland quake

4:05 pm on 30 August 2009

Aftershocks from the earthquake that rocked Southland last month are still hitting the region, with a quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale recorded just before 3pm on Sunday.

The quake was at a depth of 12 kilometres and centred 80 kilometres west of Te Anau, and was felt in Southern Fiordland.

The aftershock follows the 7.8 magnitude quake which hit Southland on 15 July.
