The police in Christchurch have identified the body of a man washed up on Sumner beach on Saturday.
The man's name will not be released until next of kin have been advised.
A police spokesperson says that following an investigation they have decided the death is not suspicious and will refer it to the coroner.
Part of the Esplanade at Sumner beach was cordoned off after the discovery of the body.
