The five finalists for the design of a $100 million redevelopment of Auckland's Queens Wharf have been announced.
The wharf, jointly puchased by the Government and the Auckland Regional Council in June, is planned to be a cruise ship terminal and a major party venue for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
More than 230 design entries received in the competition have now been narrowed to five.
One finalist, Andre de Graaf, from Construkt / Sills Van Boheman says their design would include a rib-like structure at the end of the wharf, which would sit on railway tracks and can move around.
Another finalist, Simon Williams adds a new structure but also retains at least one of the two historic sheds on the wharf, which he says is important when it comes to keeping to budget and retaining heritage.
The finalists now have two weeks to put the final touches on their designs, with a winner to be announced in mid November.
