Checkpoints up after fatal hit-and-run near Auckland

A number of police checkpoints have been set up north of Auckland on Wednesday to try and jog motorists' memories about a hit and run that killed a doctor a week ago.

Dr Graham Robinson, 62, was riding along Peak Road in Helensville with a friend when he was hit by a ute on a straight length of road.

Police say the driver failed to stop afterwards.

Detective Mark Palma says the ute had a canopy on the back which may have been removed since the crash.
