Girl struck by ball during cricket test

3:12 pm on 27 November 2009

A six-year-old girl is nursing a bump to her head after being hit by a cricket ball during the test between New Zealand and Pakistan at the University Oval in Dunedin.

New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor hit a six, which struck the girl on the forehead.

The child's mother, who did not wish to be named, told Radio New Zealand her daughter was fine, if a bit overwhelmed by the incident.

She had received medical attention from both the New Zealand and Pakistan team physiotherapists and was given lollies by one of the umpires.

Despite the incident, the girl and her family were staying at the ground to watch the rest of Friday's play.
