Removal of Hell's Angel's compound wall sought

5:35 pm on 27 January 2010

A high wall surrounding a Hell's Angels headquarters in Whanganui is a target for removal by Wanganui District Council and police.

They are applying to the district court for an order to take down fortifications surrounding the gang compound in Kaikokopu Road.

The fence is about two metres high and made of corrugated tin.

Inspector Duncan MacLeod says the wall makes it difficult for officers to access the premises when executing search warrants and chasing suspected offenders.

Mr MacLeod says motorcyclists have evaded police on a number of occasions by fleeing into the compound.

Voting at the council on the motion was seven in favour and six against.

Mayor Michael Laws says funding for the case will be sought from the Police Commissioner and Minister of Police.
