People are being reminded to keep their dogs on a lead near kiwi populations, after a bird was killed by a dog in the Rimutaka forest park.
The Rimutaka Forest Park Trust says staff have also failed to locate another of the park's kiwi population and fear it too has been killed.
The trust says it only takes a few seconds for an attack on a kiwi to happen, so people should keep their dogs restrained at all times.
