Water colour checks advised in east Auckland

6:55 am on 24 May 2010

Residents in parts of east Auckland are advised to check the colour of their drinking water.

More than 1000 customers in Howick and Bucklands Beach went without water for much of Sunday after a valve problem in a major water main.

Manukau Water says water pressure should be back to normal for most customers.

But it advises people to be careful washing laundry because changes to pressure in the pipes could produce discoloured water that stains clothes.

Unless the discolouration is significant, it says the water should be safe to drink.
