Millionaire enters mayoralty election

12:23 pm on 28 June 2010

Millionaire businessman Colin Craig has joined the contest for the Auckland super-city mayoralty.

Mr Craig, who owns a property management firm, organised a "march for democracy" last year against Government inaction on referendums.

Mr Craig says he sees some major opportunities for Auckland and some major risks.

He says he does not have confidence in two of the candidates, John Banks and Len Brown, to get it right, nor does he have confidence in their leadership style or ability.

Mr Craig says he's going to focus on the leaky homes crisis and protecting local identity.

The election will be held on 9 October. The new Auckland Council will come into being on 1 November.
