No leniency for boyracers - police

6:08 am on 3 July 2010

Police in Christchurch say they won't show leniency to any boy racers who break a new bylaw this weekend.

The bylaw, which bans cruising in certain areas, came into effect on Thursday.

Anyone who drives either in a convoy or repeatedly along the same stretch of road on multi-lane streets in the city, could receive a $150 ticket, or a fine of up to $1000.

Senior Sergeant Glen Nalder says the police will enforce the bylaw and those breaking the law will be dealt with appropriately.
