Motorists are being warned to take care on the Desert Road on State Highway 1 through the central North Island on Monday, which had been closed for a time due to snow and ice.
MetService forecast 4-8cm of snow in the area on Monday and advised driving with caution.
In the South Island, the road over Porters Pass is closed to towing vehicles and all other vehicles must use chains.
Motorists are also asked to take care on State Highway 8 between Raes Junction and Clarkesville, because of black ice.
