Calls to Plunket Line have increased almost 40% since government funding enabled the telephone service to expand to 24 hours a day.
The toll-free service provides callers with information and advice on child health and parenting issues. Calls are answered by a nurse.
Health Minister Tony Ryall says the Government has provided $3 million in the past financial year, during which 96,000 calls were answered.
Mr Ryall says that is 27,000 calls more than the previous year.
