Gin Wigmore and Dane Rumble head the list of finalists for this year's New Zealand Music Awards.

The two singers are the most nominated musicians, with each being nominated in six categories, including best album and best single.

Wellington band Phoenix Foundation has been nominated for five awards, including best rock album.

The Legacy Award has been given to Shihad, who will also be inducted into the New Zealand Hall of Fame. The band's singer, Jon Toogood, says he and bass guitarist Karl Kippenberger feel a bit too young to be getting the award.

The winners of the other awards will be announced next month.
