Severe storm warning lifted

5:44 pm on 22 September 2010

A severe thunderstorm warning for the upper North Island has been lifted.

MetService says the front it feared would cause the storms is moving quickly to the east and conditions should improve throughout the day.

Further snowfalls on the Desert Road and the Rimutaka Hill Road are likely on Wednesday morning and is predicting more rain for the lower North Island.

Another fast moving front is expected to arrive over the North Island and the upper South Island on Wednesday night, bringing severe westerly gales particularly in Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
