Auckland University has confirmed it will join other tertiary institutions in raising fees.
Student fees will rise 4% in 2011, the maximum allowed under current legislation.
Several other universities - including Victoria, Canterbury and Massey - will also raise fees by 4%.
David Do of the New Zealand Union of Students Association says the rise is a result of government underfunding.
