A woman is dead and a hunter has been charged, following a fatal shooting south of Turangi.
Police and ambulance staff found the body of the 25-year-old woman in the Kaimanawa Ranges about 11pm on Friday.
Police say the hunter responsible was with a group, and he did not know the victim.
A 25-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested and charged with careless use of a firearm and is due to appear in the Taupo District Court on Wednesday.
A scene examination is underway and a post-mortem is expected to be held in Auckland on Sunday.
