Home detention for doctor

9:33 pm on 2 November 2010

An Auckland doctor who fraudulently claimed more than $180,000 from Auckland District Health Board has been sentenced to 12 months' home detention and 400 hours' community service.

Hongsheng Kong pleaded guilty in August to 10 charges of falsifying records and six of using a document fraudulently in almost 4000 fraud transactions.

He was sentenced in Auckland District Court on Tuesday.

Kong manipulated enrolment dates and created false transactions to get funding for patients from primary health organisation AuckPac.

Judge Ema Aitken told him his offending had been sophisticated, premeditated and deliberate.

Kong has paid reparations of more than $183,000 to the health board.
